Is it bad to run my YFZ on choke?

On my wolverine in the winter I have to ride for a wile on the first of 2 settings..But after a wile and it warms up and the idol seem to be high..I just push it back in all the way and I'm fine till the end of the ride..

i would say its fine, is it broken in yet? i would let any machine warm up for 5 min atleast but riding with the choke on wont hurt at all just be ready to by new plugs and possibly hear some back fires
and whoever mentioned how the choke works is wrong in a way, it doesnt choke the air it opens up a valve that gets gas from a tub that runs to the very bottom of the bowl making the fuel:air ratio richer yes

no mods yet. its really annoying how long it takes to warm up. I'll bring it back to the deal, its still under warentee.</end quote></div>
Well, if its under warranty, def let the dealership screw with it.
Otherwise, I'd just recommend you go up one size on the pilot, and maybe back the fuel screw out a turn or so.
These two posts contradict each other. One says its fine that it takes 10 min to warm up, the other says it's a problem that needs to be fixed. Maybe it could be that its been cold in New Jersey and most of the time I have been running it, temps have been below 32.</end quote></div>
I don't see the contradiction??
I said CHOKE for no longer than 2 min....
He said IDLE for 10 min....
Two totally different things. Choke for a couple mins, then it should idle on its own.
I wait till the side of the motor is warm to the touch, then putt around for a few mins to get it up to temp. Then rip on it.
Thats just my method though.

on "normal carbs" or at least how chokes used to work is that a valve would choke the air to allow a richer mixture...i dunno how the yfz carbs work.
an aside, i 2nd that 2fun, i dunno what that guy was talking about, maybe he misunderstood what we were talking about.

well the carbs on my banshee use the same technique of opening a valve and letting fuel pass through more
i dont see how a choke would work by slowing down the air flow and if so how? i guess it could be like adding another slide in the carb that blocks more air but thats just to complicated IMO

well if you got a small engine with a carb like a honda or such, or any regular small engine, ex. lawnmower, logspliter, etc....anyways, that's why it was originally called a choke, choking the air supply...similar to what happens to humans

I do remember some carbs having a flipper inside them that would cut off most of the air when the choke was applied.I dont remember which quad or dirt bike had them though. But they would have the same effect as other carbs that just allow more fuel to pass through while on choke.Vacuum is what pulls the fuel and air so if you cut the air off then it will pull more fuel.
