I know your frustration with the bike not being what you thought. A while back I was on the verge of getting a new quad, and I had it narrowed down to a 400ex because I know a few guys that had them. Then the Raptor came out! I was IN AWE! The very first thing I thought was "660 CC's! I will CRUSH everything in the woods!". For some reason, the smart part of my brain told me to hold up, and not rush out and get a first year production bike. So I did, and a couple of other guys I know bought Raptors. And to my suprise, the Raptor does not "crush" any fast bike.
When I first saw it and read the stats, I was like everyone else, I thought this bike would anialate anything on the trail. It does not "anialate" anything by any stretch of the imagination, including a 400ex! Is the Raptor faster? Yea! Alot faster? No! I rode them both, and spent the same amout of time on each(about a half hour)before I decided what to buy. And at that time I was unbiased, and I was riding my brothers Warrior because I had no bike of my own to ride. To me, the 400ex was a much nicer bike to ride in the woods, and in tight woods riding the Raptor's power is worthless! Even out in the open, what is a couple of bike lengths? Not enough for an extra 260 cc's! The tires are only so big and only grab so much ground no matter how much motor you have.
Don't get me wrong, the Raptor is a nice bike, but if you buy one don't expect to be the fastest guy in the woods, you won't be! I bought a 400ex and I am very happy with it, but they should have included reverse but I only have the need for it maybe once or twice a day so I relly don't miss it.

Personally I felt Chasman's scholarly response continues this thread in the wrong direction. You folks should really grow up a little & get some real experience before making yourselves look like the children you are in front of the more experienced riders here.

It's amusing to see the mentality of the typical "Gotta have the biggest because it's obviously the best" personality type showing it's face here.

ps. I guess for clarification I should state that only the 1st sentence is in response to you, the rest is just general observation.

What shop do you use and what is their number? Maybe we can call them and see what's up with your Raptor for sure. I have been very interested in that bike since its debut but have learned in the past to let the manufacturers work all the bugs out for a couple of years before buying. I once bought one of the very first Scrambler 400 4x4s and learned my lesson. Jetting was the least of my problems.
Is this shop you are using a dealer or a regular small engine place or just someone you know?

If you want a fast bike, BUILD it, don't buy it. I wanted to be the fastest around, so what did I do?, stuffed a modded cr500 motor into a 86 three-wheeler. There ain't a factory produced quad that'll touch it. Just the way I like it..... And I'll admit, after reading everything about the crapturd, then actually riding one, I was glad I didn't spend money to have a subscription to the over-exagerrating magazine. It's nice, but not like it should be. I'd never own one. Oh, to the insecure Yammie-bitches, feel free to make fun of my wheelers. After all, you probably have a "sacred" crapture, so you don't mean **** to me.

Ihatemyraptor, I think the dealer F'ed up your quad because to be totally honest my raptor stock ran like a turd down low not what I expected but after getting my raptor back from TC Racing with just a pipe and carb work I love it. I was told that if someone doesnt know what there doing it is hard to get the carbs dialed in perfect if you want to see the raptors full potential call TC for his pipe and jetting and you'll see what a true big 4 stroke should run like.

well heres a little info that will help you. Take your $9000 investment bring it to a shop that has a small clue on how to tune. Have them dial in the beast and see how it does. I have a raptor but I don't claim it to be the fastest but I did get what I expected for the riding i do. It was the same with my banshee. I wanted the speed and right out the box both machines where just that. I had to set them up to the riding I do, WOODS and MX.

Call up TC racing and ask them a few questions, I have never delt with them but I see in alot of posts he is the guy that can help you in the tuning, if not you, get all the info and have another shop do the wrenching for you.

Unless you like taking money and throwing it away.
