in '03 yamaha put hydrolic brakes on the blaster, they are a lot like the ones on raptors, if the are hydrolic brakes then the pads are worn out and you need new ones

 

how can i tell if they are hydrolic or not?

 

on the right hand side of the handle bars there should be a rbake fluid resevoir mounted on the brake handle. If its a 2003 its hydro. I would check and see if you have pads remaining on there thats most likey your problem . Although if its grinding all the time you could have something like a rock wedged between the rotor and caliper. Bearing locking up. But start simple first

 

i was told it was a 2003 when i bought it.. but there is no fluid resevoir. no place to put break fluid anywhere on the whole quad..

 

Then you don't have an 03. you can get an exploded view of 03 blaster front breaks at the following, it has a standard handle bar fluid resevoir.

how do i find out what year it is then?

 

Find the VIN number on the frame and call a local Yamaha dealer.
