02 Warrior died while riding - Any ideas?
Hi all,
I'm interested in buying my brother-in-law's 02 Warrior. It is all apart right now (plastic is all off). This quad is/was in mint condition. Less than 1000 miles on it. Last year he was riding it and while riding the motor just shut off. He could not restart it.
It turns over, it has spark, and it has fuel. He thought something happened with the timing and pulled the timing chain cover off. However, he said the timing chain looks fine.
Any ideas what to look for next?
Thanks,
The IT Dude

Man that could be anything. I'd start with making sure of all your electrical connecitons. Warriors are notorious for bad grounds. Also, you might have a bad run-off switch on the handlebars. This is one time I believe paying a few bucks to the dealer could save you $ in the long run. You can start replacing parts left and right and never find the problem. If he has ever taken it through water, given the age of the machine, I'd still look to the grounds.

thats a weird situation, spark and fuel but no run
try this,,,,in the dark either at night in the diveway with no outdoor lights,or at night in the garage with the lights out try cranking it over and look to see if you have any electrical arcing, you may have a cracked wire thats robbing juice, and even though the plug shows spark,it may not be enough to ignite

also,,,when you say "it has fuel",,,have you removed the air filter and made sure your getting fuel ,if its getting sufficiant fuel, and not starting while continuously turning it over it should result in a flood situation,if its not flooding then it may be that its not getting enough fuel
did you replace the fuel filter, their cheap and is no more than basic maintenance,,,,also the gas valve may have sludge restricting fuel flow

$10 says you don't have spark due to grounded wires at the rear of the frame. Yamaha skimped on the wire, making them too short and they rub tight against the frame, eventially rubbing through the wire insulation and grounding out. Check real good all around where the CDI box is.
