Default 2001 kodiak 400 front differential question

Need some input on the 4X4 operation. When I put it in 4X4 it seems to lock in fine but when I disengage it via the 4X4 button it makes a rather loud noise when it disengages nad it takes 5 to 10 yards to disengage. Is this normal? It seems to run fine but the noise almost makes me feel like something is wrong.

When I disengage the 4x4 it often takes a bit to happen. I often try to change the speed to try to create some slack so it can move. I would worry about the loud noise. Mine does not do it. Has yours always done this or is it a new thing?

Ya... sometimes it takes a bit to disengage - I do like Traildad does... if it isn't off in like 10 feet.. I sometimes stop.. no big deal either way.. but the NOISE... not right... I would check your front diff fluid level.. hopefully it isn't low... your bearings could be shot too...
