I lost one out of the Belt cover and one out of the Rear footbrake assembly. Also I took out all the bolts on my belt housing and re-installed them with Anti-Seize compound on them as the bolts are Steel and the engine housing is Aluminum.
If the breaks seem weak - maybe they just need to be bleed? I know they are hydralic discs 2 in front and 1 in rear. Though the '08 has a rear wet brake - so not sure if that is a sealed drum or disc.
The Rear brake is actuated by both the foot pedal and the left hand brake - there are adjustments for those as the left hand brake is a cable going to the foot pedal... just like on bicycle brakes .
