Default Why Are All New Quads Becoming More and More Complicated?

Hi, I just wanted to see if I have any others here that follow my type of thinking.....of wondering why all quads are getting so comlicated? This past weekend trail riding in a group while crossing a creek my freinds raptor 700 FI brain box freaked out basilly putting him dead on the trail and ruining his weekend. It kinda of made a topic with all us why all quads are going the overly tenical route. We kinda of all agreed that it makes sense for the all the ***** out race quads ect...... but why all of them? Kind of would be nice to see an air cooled larger displacement motor that does not need a lap top to diagnose a problem. Say somthing like the Honda XR motors. Guess I am just venting here but it just would be nice knowing you can fix a break down on the back 40 with basic hand tools. I would understand if the EPA is mandating better emission controls but I don't think it's to that point yet. In short I guess my point is that would be nice to see Yamaha come out with a Raptor 700 that has a motor like that of the Raptor 350. Maybe making all the power adding frills a option or GYTR part. Please don't take this as me cutting the new stuff down.... the technology is amazing. I've been the the all out horsepower hungry days and have enough screws and pins in my jonts to know when it's time to let the younger crowd take over that scene. But now I just want to get out and ride to have fun and have enough power to maybe take a fast blast down a fire trail. So does anyone aggree with me that it would be nice to see some of the new machines not so complited becuase not everyone needs all the latest and greatest tech in somthing......... when what you have already works!

Sorry for that novel,

yea its just like everything else technology constantly grows and makes things more advanced in return makes it more likely for things to break, honda is prolly keeping there stuff as old school as possible compared to everyone else IMO but yea its dumb, just dont buy any new stuff lol keep the older bikes...

Industries want to ensure that bikes are repaired at the dealership where their parts will be bought at dealer price (expensive) & they make money on both sides.

Well, there are plenty of lower tech smaller engine quads. I think most ppl who pay top dollar for the big bore flagship quad, want the flagship features and tech to go with the price tag.

I remember the car guys asking the same question in the mid-1980s. I guess it's like my granny used to say, "If you're not growin', you're dyin'".

I agree with that, lowtech is only lowtech once higher tech comes out, if you know what I am saying. Another few years, todays quads will be getting old tech....the way it goes.

This is the same way I look at it would you rather be driving a carbbed 80's vehicle or a modern EFI one?

Most high tech electronics in vehicles require special equipment and information to diagnose problems. This keeps the dealerships nice and busy and the average guy is held at ransom.

Granted the newer electronics allow for cleaner emissions, snappier performance, better fuel mileage and automatic all weather adjustability, they are often unserviceable by the owner.

This reason is why I bought a carbureted 450 Kodiak over the TRX 420 Honda with EFI. That and other reasons.

But the day is coming quickly that there will be no choice.
