Default 2000 blaster-WANTING TO GIVE IT MORE BLAST

my friend has a 2000 yfs200 blaster, he currently has a moose racing air filter, jet kit, and FMF pipes, but still wants more power. he can keep up with my 300ex with pipes and jet kit and air filter until about 3rd gear. we are hoping to race together next year, but he won't race unless he gets some modifications, but doesnt want to spend too much $. what are some cheap mods that will give it some more power?

To be honest now it seems to be time to get inside the motor. Porting and cylinder squeeze will benefit the most. Just remember typically a 2 stroke will do well if not better off the line, at top speed is where the torque of a 4 stroke comes into play. I don;t know your location but if you want tu send ne a pm i'll to help

you need to get your self some vitos reeds, or vforce 3's or something and advance your timing, a keihin pj 34mm carb, bore it out and fit a wiseco prolite piston in it or maybe just get a vito 240 kit, get it ported, milled, and a lightened flywheel, and maybe change your gearing, maybe a boost bottle and reed spacer also, thats all i can think of at top of my head...lol

I agree with the above post, just be carefull on what you do if you plan on racing it. A big bore kit would eliminate you from some of the classes. Everything mentioned by 91warrior357 are good, but you would want to get that thing ported so the motor can flow and breath easy and use the extra. I bought a cylinder from Germany and had it ported as much as the mapping would allow, had the engine case inside polished and the cylinder and case matched perfectly. The counter balancer and shaft removed as well as the oil pump. I have to admitt that the 200 stock bore with the stock carb really rips. I have to hand it to my engine dude.

or tell your friend to be looking for a used 300. that might be cheaper than building a racing engine and adding all that stuff. i mean he is going ot do what he wants, but im sure there are others out there that are close to what your running. regearing the trans and changing the sprockets and chain is an option too, but there is alot of things one can do to mod the speed of any quad.

Cheap mods will be: Vito's reed spacer ($60), Vito's timing degree key($20), shave the head about .030"($50), Vito's reeds($60), 1 tooth larger front sprocket ($20) after a few more mods. More expensive mods: port & polish($200), Vito's 240 kit, or the 10mm stroker kit..............................

Yes you can regear the sprockets, but what you gain on one end you loose some on the other. The 300 was an option that we pondered when we began racing. We visited alot of the tracks that our series runs and most were harder dirt and that is where a Blaster will shine. When we get into a soft sand the 4 strokes shine. The Honda's just don't seem to stand up (body plastic) like the Blasters do. I am not saying they are not good, the kid leading in points is on a modified 300 and he can ride. If you really watch the compression and the bolts from coming loose there really isn't much to maintain. I would tell you all what our Blaster dyno'd at but I would probably be called a lier by more than one. Both are good it is just what your preference is and if you have a builder that specializes in one type of motor. Our builder did his training in Japan and races 2 stroke modified carts himself so the knowledge is there.
This is just my 2 cents worth, buy what you like and HAVE FUN that is the name of the game. By the way is anyone here going to HLR for the amatuer championship this weekend. If so look up #12 blaster and we can BS
