Default Help..450 Grizz. wont run w/o choke on.

OK it only has 440 miles. I got it used with 300 miles. Ran great until now. It will run witht the choke on but as soon as you shut it off it dies. Would it be the carb being dirty maybe?

I took the pannels off to look at the carb but its pretty tight quarters. How do you get it off to clean it? Also there's a small, maybe 1/4 inch line, coming off the bottom that that hangs down and steps up to maybe a half inch. It isnt connected to anything. I put a little bit of Sea Foam in the tank and ran it but didnt see anything out of it. Maybe didnt run it enough.......Please give me some help....thanks.

Well when you choke it you are reducing the amount of air allowed in. So it is possible that there is not enough gas getting in and reducing the air evens things out. It is also possible that too much air is getting in and choking it evens things out. If you can't see any reason why too much air could get in then I would guess that dirt or something is blocking the flow of gas.

Also if you choke it and get it up to speed and un-choke it while riding will it just die or start to run bad?

If I take the choke off while up to speed then it will spit and spuder and die after I slow down.

1. check the gas cap hose to see if it's clogged.

2. That hose that hangs down from the carb is the "bleeder" hose. You can open the screw above it and drain the gas out of the carb thru it.

3. When was the last time it worked correctly? Do you remember doin anything just before it started?

4. How long has it sat between the last ride where it worked, and now?

My bigbear was doing that and all it was some how it had got a little dirt and water in the sediment bowl. I would turn the the tank to off and drain the carb. It should only take about 30-60 seconds to drain it.

Did you play around with the idle? The idle may be turned down too low. If so, sounds like a carb problem.

Default Help..450 Grizz. wont run w/o choke on.

I ride it alittle every week or two but not alot.

I changed the gas today and also ran some Sea Foam through it and changed the plug. Didnt help. It didnt change either when I took the air filter off. I dont see any air leaks anywhere. I think it has to be the carb. I drain the bottom and gas came out OK it seemed. I may tinker with it a little more then just take it to the shop and let the tear me a new one.

Well I pulled the carb and cleaned the jets and adjust the idle. I had a hard time getting it started after cleaning the carb but it seems to be running great now. I think there was trash in the carb.....thanks everyone.
