K & N PROBLEMS?
#11
THE WHOLE REASON I BOUGHT THE FILTER WAS BECAUSE OF THE REP. THAT K & N HAS. I ALSO HAVE HAD ONE ON MY TRUCK FOR 5 YEARS NOW WITHOUT ANY ISSUES. AND I DO KEEP THEM MAINTAINED I SERVICE THE FILTER EVERY OTHER OIL CHANGE.BUT WHERE I LIVE ITS NOT THAT DUSTY SO ITS NOT DIRTY WHEN I DO SERVICE IT. BUT I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO LOOK AT MY WOLVERINE AND THERE HAS DEFINATLY BEEN SOMTHING IN THE MOTOR THAT HAS CAUSED SOME SCORING ON THE PISTON AND THE CYLINDER WALL. AS FAR AS A PREFILTER I DID NOT KNOW ONE WAS REQUIRED. SO IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THE DEALERSHIP JUST DOESNT WANT TO DEAL WITH IT SO THEY ARE BLAMING IT ON THE K & N ? also, how many cars, trucks, whatever do you see with a foam filter....lol most aircleaners on vehicles are the hardstyle filters. whether its K&N, Fram, Napa, or any other ones. you cant really compare atvs with vehicles. completely different thing there.

According to K&N there products do not void any warranty. I have a pre filter on my K&N filter and it caught the small sand particles but what I did see on mine after looking at this post is that there is a gap at the top of the filter about a 3/8" wide. To cure this I installed a 230 or 231 o-ring around the sealing surface of the filter and then made a block to sandwich between the intake box and the filter and there is no more gapand filter is in the intake box nice and tight now. I did this just to make sure I have no serious issues like posted but have had my quad for 1 1/2 yrs with a K&N filter in and had no problems. Just make sure filter is serviced regularly.

MY WOLVERINE HAS BEEN IN SOME SERIOUS MUD AND STUFF BUT I HAVENT HAD IT DEEP ENOUGH TO GET INTO THE AIRBOX INTAKE..... AND I PERSONALLY DONT THINK ITS A FILTER PROBLEM BUT I WAS JUST CURIOUS TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM B/C IF NO ONE HAS THEN HOW CAN THEY SAY THAT K & N HAS THIS PROBLEM I GUESS I JUST NEED TO TAKE THIS UP WITH THE DEALERSHIP...WHO KNOWS...
