04 kodiak 450 charing problem
#1
hi i have an 04 kodiak 450 that runs fine all day long and then once i start using the lights it kills the battery. i put a meter on the battery and when i start it the voltage does not go up at all no matter how high i rev it. also some times if i go above 40 for a little bit it will just die out and then i can not open the throttle at all or else it dies so i was thinking the carb needs a good cleaning. any help on either topic would be great thanks

Sounds like the alternator/generator is junk as well as your battery..
Manual

The link for the manual works but sometimes you just need to work it a bit...
1. Click the link in the Message
2. Scroll down to the Section in the BLUE Box that says "05-06 Kodiak 450" and Click "DOWNLOAD FILE"
3. Your download SHOULD start...
IF NOT
4. Scroll down to the Bottom.... where you will see
" Your download should begin shortly.
If it does not, try Download file now "
That should do the trick

well so far i have fixed the charging problem. it ended up being a bad connection at the voltage regulator so i cleaned and greased it and all is well. as far as the carb issue i havent gotten to that yet.

that wouldnt be the first one to do that. a year ago my 450 wolvy did the same thing, i cleaned the connector and packed it full of dielectric grease and has worked ever since. a couple months back someone else with a wolvy like mine had the same problem, i think kodiaks and wolvys are basically the same so something is up with that.
