Default carb problem

I own a 05 Wolverine and a couple of weeks ago when I went to start it there was fuel running out of the carb overflow. After doing some research I pulled the carb off and inspected the float set up. I found that the float needle was stuck, so I took the float assembly apart and cleaned all related parts including spraying carb cleaner in and around the whole carb. I reassembled everything and reinstalled the carb. Well I fixed the leak, but now the engine is racing and occasionally sputtering. What did I do wrong? It was running fine prior to the float leak.

are you describeing a high RPM idol?

if so i would first check your idol speed skrew, turn it OUT and see if it make a diffirence on idol speed. if that dose not seem to be the problem i would do an intake leak test. this involves takeing off the air filter, putting your hand over the intake, turning the kill switch to off. then hit the starter a couple of times so the engine turns over. this will create a vaccume in the intake. there should be a good strong vaccume for 30+ seconds. if the vaccume does not hold that long you have an intake leak. taghten all intake clamps and connections! then try agean.

The first thing I would check is making sure your throttle slide is in properly and that the needle is down in the nozzle correctly. This is a pretty common problem when you reassemble the carb.

Default carb problem

my 99 big bear 350 does the same thing if i turn the fuel off to run the bowl dry. as soon as i turn the fuel back on, it starts pouring. the sad thing is that the stealership rebuilt my carb in may. i am searching for an edlebrock carb for my quad. anyone know if the carb from the 350 warrior will fit the 350 big bear? edlebrock makes one for the warrior but not the big bear.

Thanks to all that responded to my post. I went back to check the connection from the airbox and carb and it was fine. Then prior to pulling the carb back off to check the plate I had a thought. I pulled the throttle linkage cover off and noticed that the throttle was open a little bit. I made sure that the cable as installed correctly and it was, so something else was holding it open. Then I pulled the thumb throttle cover off (even though I hadn't had it off for the carb removal) and bingo there it was. When I reassembled the throttle cable into the carb I must have slackened up the cable and the cable end came off the thumb throttle and was wedged in so it kept the carb at partial throttle. I love when the simplest things fool you the most. Although I felt kind of stupid for not figuring it out right away. At least it was a human malfuncion and not a mechanical malfunction. Thanks again for your thoughts. It's nice to know that answers are just a keyboard away.

goto bikebandit.com, use the tool to select your year make and model then click aftermarket parts. choose fuel/air and it will list all the carbs new for that make and model. my carb is 95 bucks brand new. i will be getting one of these units with the tax return.
