I really need some help I have been having major problems with my 1992 big bear. It starts with the pull start, but not with the electric start. It turns over fine with the electric start but just wont start. I was told it would be the stator coil (the thing which produces the spark, I tried another one but no luck,I have also tried another CDI, and a master coil another battery and I have checked the starter motor out and it seems fine. What else can I try?? I have been told the fly wheel may be down on its magnetic do you think this is possible?? or is it possible the starter motor may not be turning over fast enough but I was under the immpression that they turn over or they dont not in between please help me thanks in advance from Dave

Try boosting it and see if it will start that way...if it does have your battery checked...if it starts by the pull rope then it should start with the starter...hope that helps Dave

It has nothing to do with the mechanically running engine electrics like the flywheel/coil/cdi/exc because it runs if you pull start it, if anything was messed up with the major electricals then it would not run period the electric starter would make no diffrence. This may sound stupid but it could be turning over too fast, aka overcharged the battery? It could be possible that you sheared a gear in the electric starter but not that likley. Anyways I hope this helped, or made sense at least? lol! 99% of the time it is something stupid that you overlooked.

mstr, could need new rings, Ive seen alot of machines that were on their last leg and would only jump start.

Hey MSTER does your bike turn over fast ?? if it does it wont be the battery!! I have checked all the mechanicals and starter gears (all fine as I say mine turns over fine. I had a good look at the flywheel today and noticed it is a little damaged and quite worn I am going to get another in a few days and hope that works (wish me luck ) thanks everyone for their ideas!! I appreiciate it. I am trying to cut out the middle man by fixing it myself ( save some bucks!!) but I have talked to three mechanics they all said it would be electric or else it wouldnt run at all oh well ride hard from Dave

it was turning over slow , but still getting good spark. so i charged the battery , now it turns over a lot faster and sparks.
i havent put a compression guage on it yet ,but it shows good compression with the "thumb over plug hole test"
feels the same as the one that runs.(i have two YFM100's)
