hi, just today i bought a 93 yamaha timberwolf and i cant get the engine to run, i bought it as a mechanics special from some old guy for 250 bucks and i couldnt pass it up!!! he said one day he was riding it just stalled and never could get it to start again. so i bought it, well i checked for a few things so far, and i have spark and it cranks freely, i took the timing chain cover off and everything looks good in there, there isnt any metal shavings in the oil, it sparks, it wont start. its almost like the timing is off by alot, because when i was cranking it, it made flames come out of the airbox/ carbuator and it would backfire really loud, but it wont run. i took the valve covers off and everthing seems to be working fine when i crank it over, even the piston moves up and down, so i know its not a broken rod. . so where else should i look??? soory im new to these things, but i know my way around with small mower engines and stuff.. thanks for any help or advice you can give!

ok, i found my problem!!! the intake valve didnt break off, but there was a hole, and thats why i was gettin flames out the carb!!! so i ordered a set of shindy intake and exhaust valves and rockers. and also the whole top end gasket kit set. the head wasnt too badly damaged and is salvable. i think i got a good deal on this!! the bore looks excellent and the piston top looks good too!. i dont think ill have many problems with it fter i fix this! now to do the valve job. what kind of spring compresser can i use to get the valves out?? i already took out the cam and the bushing, and that looks good. can i just go to autozone and rent a spring compressor?? any advice??
