Default 94 timberwolf rear axle

hey all, hope your having a good summer. my bike has been down all summer and finally got the rear differential i need. bolted it all,, and to the last part. bolting on the brake plate, and the adaptor. my friend said after i do that the axle should be secure but its not , it can still slide in and out. what holds the axel in,,is it the brake hub when you bolt that into place? this person was making it sound like once i bolt the brake plate in the axle shouldnt move..
thanks for your quick replies,, ill be sitting here for an hour or so checking. as theres 40 people viewing this forum now, hopefully one can answer
