School me on engine oil.
#1
I have a 2008 Big Bear IRS and want to run a good engine oil. My dad has a 2000 big bear and always has run yamalube 4 20w-40(its hot in Louisiana). He has never had a problem with it. He just changes it at the end of every hunting season. My problem is it is expensive at the yamaha dealership and inconvenient to go get.
The manual says to use an oil that is API service SG or higher, JASO standard MA and not to use and oil of higher quality than specified and not labeled energy conserving II or higher. This has to do with the wet clutch.
So what oil can i use in my big bear other than yamalube. I don't want to screw up and put an oil in it that will ruin the motor/clutch.
Thanks!

anything at a dealership will be expensive, just make sure it says JASO approved on the back of the bottles and it will work, valvoline makes atv oil that you can get at autozone, walmart and stuff thats ok, ive even used diesel engine oil like rotella 15-40, but you certainly dont wanna use car engine oil, yamalube is real good stuff though along with Amsoil oils.
