Default YFZ 450 is Broke I need input!

Ok so today I was ridin my Yfz450 I just got and I let off the throttle and the engine made a loud pop and shut off. It wont crank up now. starter spins over like normal but it wont fire. I looked and there was no oil at all in the engine. You would think the guy would have put oil in it. what do you think happened and how do I fix it what parts to buy etc?

If this is true, your done, new engine time.
You would think the owner would check the oil any time he went riding.

Welcome to the forums. But, ya as DoctorTurbo said you have learned the hardway, check oil, gas, and coolant every-time before you take off. It's something you need to do even in automobiles if you drive an older one. Speaking of gas you do have some right? Didn't just run out because, that sounds like it.

what year is your yfz? oil starvation is not good for your engine, your walls are probably scored, your cylinder head is probably warped up, along with other engine failures. you're looking at a new engine, unless you're willing to build your engine, which in terms looses reliability compared to a stock block.

Sorry to hear man that really sucks, you won't really know what you need till you or somebody else tear into it and find out exactly what went wrong. Running the quad dry like that can do extensive damage to more than just the motor too, also have to consider what the gearbox and clutch went through also.

Default I feel your pain

My son is paying for his 450 now and not able to ride. Similar situation but he did have oil in the engine. I would pull the spark plug and check compression. If the engine sounds like it is free wheeling you could skip this step. His jumped timing and the piston hits the intake valves resulting in loss of compression. The head is not bad to pull but very expensive. In addition the cams do not appear to have bushings or bearings but ride in a machined cut out in the head relying on a film of oil to lubricate. I have not found a repair for this except buy a new head. good luck

tear it down and see what youve got, might have to buy a new complete engine in like new condition and use your old one for parts....if theres any good parts left lol.
