I apologize to you guys, but I have not been into ATV's since the late 1980's.
I just aquired a 1997 Yamaha Wolverine 4x4 350.

My question is .... It is pretty strong in the low gears but when i hit 4th and 5th gears it is really weak. It just seems to give out. It still accelerates, but it just seems to bog down. It will not turn very high RPM's at all. I am not looking for a rocket but just a hunting ATV. It is a full time 4x4. Is this typical of this model or is something wrong? It is in very good physical condition for the year and does not smoke at all. What should I look at if anything? Thanks!

Hopefully some one that has had one of those will chime in and get you the info you're looking for.

Your engine's compression is what I would check first. Don't know the range but am sure it is on the 'net somewhere

Do you have bigger tires than stock on it? They might be so tall that the engine can't "pull" them effectively at higher speeds/higher gears

I would check the carb just to be sure, mine was acting up awhile ago in the higher gears where it would cut out randomly. I don't know what exactly I did to fix it, but I basically just cleaned out the carb like I had OCD and changed the plug for good measure. I haven't had a problem since.

P.S. It's supposed to be full time four wheel drive
