Default 2000 Warrior - Hard shifting into Second

I installed a new clutch and it seems to feel great thru all the gears but I'm having a hard time when engaging from 1st into 2nd. New clutch cable and an EBC clutch kit, but it seems like half the time it won't take the change. It will hit neutal and then a second engagement action is required to get it there. I was looking at the linkage on the shift lever itself, should i be adjusting that too? Thanks for any help guys. Winter is almost over here in Wisconsin and I dying to ride this thing.

Make sure the shifter linkage does not have any play in it. If it does then it needs to be replaced. Also make sure the shift linkage is tight on the shift shaft that comes out of the engine. There should be no play on the shaft, and the splines need to be in good shape (not stripped). A loose/floppy shifter will cause you to miss gears.

Thanks, when I looked at the spline it looked like the connection was still good (it was still tight and no trashed ribs). I'll take a better look at the linkage tomorrow. It is adjustable. Should I take any extra play out of the connection?

Not sure if it will help a Warrior, but both my Moto4 250 and 350 Big Bear had very stiff shifting, I changed the oil to Synthetic and I could shift both ATV like it was as smooth as butter.

Just make sure the synthetic oil is motorcycle grade made for wet clutches.

I'm going to change the oil this coming weekend. Last fall I used Valvoline, picked it up at the local Advanced autoparts store. It was specifically for ATV's, but I read on another post that someone had some issues with it and switched back to the Yamalube. I can't see it being a big deal, but at this point I'll give it a try.

sounds like it just needs adjusted, which is normal after putting in a new clutch

adjusted either off the clutch perch or at the little clutch lever that comes out of the top of the side case, depending on how much it needs adjusted
