Kodiak Idle problem
#1
I have been experiencing idle problems with my new 2001 kodiak. When it idles, it sounds like its erratic and does not want to idle smooth. I also owned a 01 big bear and it had the same problem.
Is this common with Yamaha? Is there something I have to adjust, or should I just leave it and it will "break in" and start idle correctly.
Could anyone help me!!
Thanks

My Kodiak idled perfect when it was new and up to this winter. I bought mine in April 2000. This winter it was hard to start. It even fouled out a plug. I had to set the idle screw in to let it idle at a higher rate just to run. When I would get on off camber hills it would quit and if I let it sit for a minute with out giving it gas it would quit. We traced it back to a sticking choke plunger and now the choke plunger is on backorder. I did a lot of water riding this past summer and I suspect the cable got mud and water in it.
In your case I wouldnt think this is the problem since it is new. I just wanted to share that info. I think you might just need to adjust your idleing screw. Its on the left side, and you can turn it with your fingers. Look in your manual on page 8-34. See the section called "Idle speed adjustment". This hopefully will cure your problem.
