1990 Yamaha Blaster 200
#1
Hey guys, Yet another project has found its way to me.... I had a basket case china dirtbike that the kick start was totally screwed and parts impossible to find... so i traded it away to a guy who was happy to bump start it instead..and got this 1990 yamaha blaster... I was told the machine runs... but it looks like the engine is cracked where the shifter enters.. as well as the external cover.... he said it could be welded.. but im wondering if parts are still very accessible to buy new etc... I figured i was going to have to put money into the china ****.. so why not fix the blaster... Ive heard that parts are interchangable for many years on this machine..... any owners that maybe have seen this problem???
I also need to find myself a rear brake assembly...
Ill take some pictures later and post them up.... i think plastics are also in order.. since he decided to paint them....
Cheers

I would not weld it, the weld will eventually fail again then you'll be stuck with another repair bill, go to ebay & find some good used cases (pretty cheap)

Thanks for the Quick Reply.....
Ive looked on ebay for some crank cases... looks like i need clutch side cover..and clutch side case.... ive read that these were known to crack at that shifter spot... can you tell me if the cases are interchangable between 88-2006 like some of these sellers are trying to say they are???
Looks like this might be a bit of a project... but for the crappy china bike i traded.. i think im way ahead of the game...

I just bought a 1990 yamaha blaster for 200 bucks today that was in real good shape. Only prob is that the dude rebuilt the motor and it still has no compression. But i am not sure it's why? whats up with that? thanks for any help.

im pretty positive that the cases are interchangeable over the years that engine remained unchanged for like 20 years, welding the cases is not easy although it can be done...they make epoxy that works pretty good also, but just replacing the broken piece would be the better choice.
and xxaviera55 the crank case seals are probably shot or something is up with the reed valve.

Ive been looking online for crankcases.... looks like im into about $100 for the part.... do you guys think it will be easier to look for a complete bottom end??? Im thinking that if i have to split the case to replace the one side.. i might as well add some performance parts into the mix if im rebuilding the engine... assuming this one doesnt already have those things.. it looks like it was setup for racing... i cant find the oil res... so im assume it has the oil blocked off and is premixed....
xxaviera55: where are you located?? you want to sell that parts blaster???

when u get a rear brake for a blaster you go on ebay and get the shorty cable that just goes from the petal to the caliper... it eliminates the long unnecisary cable

The more im looking at this blaster... the more im seeing things not there.... like i dont see anywhere to store oil... I assume its had the oil block off kit installed on it... I also dont see an ignition on it... or a killswitch... it has a twist gas.... it kinda seems like i was setup for racing...
still working on the pics..
