Default YFZ 450 - Neutral Light problem.

I recently got a used 2008 YFZ 450... and I'm having a small problem.

It won't start when its on gear. It has to be on neutral or else it wont start, But the problem is the neutral light doesnt always come on (even when it's on neutral) If I'm sitting on the quad and I shake it, like from side to side, sometimes the neutral light does come on and I can start it and be good to go, but sometimes It blinks and turns back off...

I'm leaving for a 2 week trip to the sand dunes on August 15th and I want to fix this problem before the trip so my quad doesnt die out in the middle of nowhere.

Sounds to me like you need to trace the neutral light wire from the neutral switch. It should make good contact with switch. I had similar problem with my timberwolf and I made a new connector end for wire and it comes on everytime.

Well my headlights don turn on either. Maybe sometimes on neutral while I'm driving but even that's rare. I think that's related?

Do you have a multimeter tester/ ohm meter equipment. you can pick up pretty much any kind from local parts house for about 30-40 dollars. will come in handy down the road. Find you a copy of a repair manual online....sometimes a free copy. Look up electrical portion of manual, ignition portion should tell you how to test the ignition switch to see if its bad. I've seen them work one day and not work the next. start there and you should find your problem. sounds like something isn't making good ground or contact. check all connections in the wiring harness and clean with electronic spray and put dielectric grease in connections. good luck.
