Default 1988 Warrior running rough

Hi all. I have a 1988 Warrior and I have been having some issues with it for a long time now. It has a rough idle, and when you give it gas it back fires and wants to stall. I have rebuilt the carb, and tried a new carb just to rule that out. Air pilot screw is also set correctly. The spark plug is also new.

I know there is a rpm limiter for the parking brake, but my entire parking brake is removed, and I don't even have a rear caliper anymore. Even though the parking brake system has been removed, do you think that could still be an issue?

Also the reverse ground is good and has a clean ground.

Any input would be great.

Thanks!

If you think the engine is in otherwise good condition, (proper compression, no valve failure/leaks) I would start going over the air/fuel system.

Replacing the fuel filter is cheap, also look for leaks in the air intake, or rebuild the fuel pump.

The parking brake switch will only affect your quad when revving up to move it, at idle,it should run fine, even with a bad switch. If a new carb did not change the way it idles, then you either have low compression, from bad rings or damaged or out of adjustment valves. A bad coil or stator could also cause rought idle and backfiring,I would start with a thorough check of the valvetrain, make sure valves are set, timing marks are correct, making sure the timing marks on the cam gear are lined up at TDC. Then check compression, anything under 100psi would point to worn rings/bad valves.
