Maintenance has as much to do with where you ride and your riding style.
In eastern Pa riding all the coal regions then you have high dust levels and need to clean the oil and air filter more often. If your riding a lot in deep mud and water then you should be sure to clear the drain tubes of any water or debris at the end of the day. You'll also want to change your diff fluid often because water, mud, small pebbles will find their way into the diffs somehow they did on mine.

I've got 984 miles on mine and I bought it in May of 09 and it had around 350 - 400 miles on it. I will be changing the belt this year but I'm not going to do so until I get the EPI clutch kit.

A lot of people change their oil after every ride, I'm not one of those people. I only changed my oil once last year but I should probably at least do it twice a year with the areas I ride in.
