Post 00 Big Bear 400 Backfiring full throttle high gear

I've had this atv for a while and bought it used and abused. Ran decent at first then started to rev up one day after riding in thick brush. Started blacksmoking so checked the choke and choke has been pulled out entire time. I know the choke was pulled slightly outbefore when i was riding it but now it pulled out farther. Fix the choke and now that it is fixed properly; when i'm in fourth and fifth gear or have a load it starts sputtering and slight backfiring and starts to bog out. Plug was black black before replacing tomorrow. Idles fine and but get into high gear and it sputters. Any ideas why? Thanks

What color is the sparkplug now?. Is it still black?. If it's tan, you banging on the rev limiter, which is easy in the big bear. It is geared low, and is not very fast.

If the plug is still black, you are still running rich on the carb, or you have piston and/ or/ ring trouble.

well it was black on the old i put a new one in today and im adjusting the screw now i cant seem to get a good balance for it either to lean or to rich. also since i put the plug in and it helped out a little but still sputters and trys to bog out full throttle unless i pull the air box lid off. then it has plenty of power.also i have a homemade snorkel w/ a airfilter on the end.

I found a quick fix for the problem. I was sucking way to much air and need the carb adjusted but i fixed the problem easier. when i put my hand over the breather slightly it would cut of air and i was able to rev up w/out pop or bogging out. this said i then put a rag two layers,(folded twice) on the intake to reduce air and increase fuel. simple easy fix and now it runs fine. this is a temporary fix until i get a new carb rebuild kit.

Now if someone could show me how to properly jet and set the float. Thanks
