05 Kodiak 450 - Fuel in oil - thoughts??
#1
Hey guys. Today was rainy so I decided to do a little spring maintenance on the Kodiak. I changed the front and rear diff fluid, drained-flushed-filled the coolant, and cleaned-reoiled the air filter. Whew! The oil was only changed back in october and hasn't had much use, so I figured that didn't need changing..but I thought I'd check it. Boy, it was WAY overfilled...something was up because I am too careful to not overfill when changing. I took a sniff and it definitely smells gassy...and not Al Roker gassy, BP gassy...
Any thoughts as to where it's coming from or what to look for? I noticed recently also that when leaving it parked in my garage with the fuel petcock on reserve, there was a strong gas fume smell. I'm not sure if they are related or not, but the gas in the oil is obviously the biggest concern. Thoughts on what it might be or what to check first much appreciated.
