Default Help choose 1st atv atv

Im 5'8 180 I'm looking at a warrior 350 stock or a blaster. So with that being said my price range is pretty much under 2k. I'll take all advice doesn't have to be a yahama. I would like something that I can hit the trailes with (nothing to wild just wooded trailes) but also break away on straight strecthes with out hesitation best of both worlds.

Thanks a lot

at 180- I'd be looking at a larger quad- something that isn't going to stuff your knees into your chest
if you're looking at sport quatds I'd consider
the honda 400ex or the 440r.
or even a 300ex being with it being your first quad.
you should be able to find a really nice one for $2k or under.

the 300ex & 400ex are both trx- (trx400ex)

as far as "all around" sport quads go- they are pretty bullet proof. I don't know much about the kfx.

my sport quadding days are over- I buy the larger full sized 4x4 atv's now.

just research what other's are saying about the sport quads through out the forums- you're pretty limited to what you can buy with only $2k to spend...

If you're looking for quality, a Honda is your best choice, and for your size a 400EX would be best. A Warrior/Raptor 350 would be a good starter quad for you, but they are not quite as powerful or reliable as the 400EX. You should be able to find a fairly nice Warrior for $1200, a Raptor 350 for $1600, or a 400EX for $1800 - $2000. Just keep your eye open for the good deals, they are out there right now.

The 300EX and Blaster are OK, but both are a little small and don't have a lot of torque/power.

I would stay away from the KFX400 and Suzuki Z400, they have a lot of valve problems.

Thanks all for the info I have a possible trade on a 350 warrior in excellent condition $500 cash and hp laptop but now you guys convinced me to look for 400ex so the search starts over I'll hate to get th warrior and wish I got the 400ex.

If you have a trade lined up for a 350 warrior in excellent shape for $500 and an HP laptop I would jump on it considering a used laptop is only worth a fraction of what they are new and being new to ATV's I think a warrior will be fine for you for the time being, you will get your money back out of it.

I have had quite a bit of experience with the Z400 (the kawi, suzuki, and artic cat are the same) and they are great quads as well and very reliable. I would not hesitate on one of those either. From my experience with them I wouldn't say the honda is any more reliable. I had an 03 Z400 I traded off a year ago for a 250ex for my son, it was a great quad.

How big of a difference is a 400ex to a 350 warrior that is a concern As well I'm not tht tall bug I don't want to look like a clown on a little 4 wheeler. That's why I started backing away from the blaster

The Warrior and the 400EX are both big enough for grown men to be comfortable. The 400EX will run about 65mph, the Warrior 55mph. The 400EX has a much better suspension than the Warrior. Warriors have problems with: upper engine mounts breaking, front suspension ball joints wearing out pre-maturely, and rear axle bearings wearing out pre-maturely. While these are fairly minor issues, I can't think of any problems that the 400EX has where parts wear out pre-maturely. I would not hesitate to get a Warrior if you can get it cheap, but the 400EX is still a much better quad.

So I'm doing the trade thursday. 600 plus laptop that's worth 300. The warrior started on the first try has not been started in months according to him he need to jump it cause battery is shot. It's has it's share of rust on the exhaust and little parts of the frame here and there pulls very strong and goes into gear very soft . I check the body for cracks, bushing, chain, brakes is there anything else that I should check?? What are the first things I should do when I get it home? Prior to riding it
