Welcome to the wonderful world of blasters.. the brakes stink, expesically the rear.. I mostly use the front brakes, at least on my blaster they work really good.. but my back breaks stink.. I plan on putting a banshee rear caliper on it sometime this summer, have the caliper but need to make a bracket.. Anyways thats what I'd do..

I fixed mine by replacing it with the Trenga hydraulic brake kit. The only downfall is that it will run you $350 bills. It works really good though and if your really serious about riding a blaster it is money well spent.

No, it will not rust, its made of aluminum. Only the steel parts will rust. You can polish the throttle cover, clutch cover, cylinder, head, etc.. and they will not rust
some day I'll do the dirty work of polishing the clutch cover... here is a picture of the throttle cover,

I painted around the yamaha logo w/metallic purple enamel then just sanded it off with very fine sandpaper, looks brushed. I like it.

Everyone says the Blaster rear brakes don't work well. The fact is they work very well when adjusted properly which can be a little tricky. Follow the directions in the manual but realize you may have to depress the lever 20-30 times before the adjustment is correct.
