Default Starting problem 87 moto 4 225

Hope someone can help. Atv will only spin fast enough/start if you jump with a started veh.
I have replaced-battery, solenoid, starter, batt cables, ground wire.

I have tried using cables to go from neg batt straight to neg on starter and have also used cables to go from batt + straight to + starter. Still very slow turning over.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

My brother has the same problem with his and I've been told it's the pickup coil on the stator. At least his has a pull start.

all the research I did coil related stated no spark. Mine has spark (although maybe weak) but mine acts like it doesnt have the cranking amps to get the motor spinning fast enough to start, will a coil issue cause that? Batt test plenty hot and is new, and it meters over 12v all the way from batt to starter. This problem has seemed to get worse over time. Something else that might or might not be related is that I have to back my idle jet completely out in order for it to start. I have adjusted intake & exhaust valve recently as well. thanks for the help!

Change the plug, just in case. If that doesn't cure it, check compression, under 90psi and something is wrong. If it is low, check valve clearances, not sure what they should be but 0.003" for both is a good starting point. If there was no clearance on one valve, check compression again after adjusting, this should have fixed it.

If compression was OK but it won't run, clean the carb out, getting some fuel is not the same as getting enough.

I have the same model and they always have a pullstart so if you cant fix it use that.
