Default 95 big bear 350 rear end trouble/compatibility

Hello,

My 95 Yamaha big bear needs a new axle and ring gear. Took the bike to somebody who says they have a whole rear end/axle/hubs, etc, from a 98 big bear that will fit. Kind of contradicts everything I've been reading but this guy seems to have a lot of experience and sure gets a lot of work. I'd hate to visit the dealer with it. Anybody know if this is possible? Is it only the individual components that are incompatible between the years? If he changes the whole rear end will it bolt up and fit the drive shaft? thanks,

T

What have you lost if it doesn't fit?

Here in the UK there are a couple of specialists who build up the old shaft and re-machine the splines. One will make the new splines to fit your worn diff splines provided they are not too far gone.

Here is a 95 (top) vs a 98 (bottom) looks like the same layout to me.
