1988 Yamaha Moto-4 No Power
Hello everyone,
I have a 1988 Yamaha Moto-4. I purchased a new battery for it, charged it, put it on the bike, turned the key and nothing. The neutral light doesn't come on, the headlights do not come on. I have no idea.
I confirmed the battery was okay by having a neighbor check it with a voltage meter. The red switch on the handle bars isn't the issue either. Also the four wheeler isn't stuck in gear as far as I know. It rolls forwards and backwards just fine.
The battery cables don't look damaged in anyway, maybe a little bit of surface rust but nothing to keep them from getting a connection to the battery.
I don't even know where to begin to solve this issue, if anyone has an idea please let me know.
Thank you!

Thank you for the information, as soon as i'm back from hunting tomorrow I will take a look at it. I guess if the fuse is blown it'll look like a blown car fuse?

Let us know what you find out. This most certainly sounds like it could be a fuse issue. Keep in mind as well that it doesn't take too much corrosion on wiring to cause issues.

No neutral light is a big clue. First thing you need to do is track down a service manual for that bike. it gives you electrical diagrams, fuel issues, and mechanical repairs. Without it you'll be pulling your hair. I have a 88 YFP350U and without a service manual, I'd be lost. It's saved my hide several times and worth the investment. Sometimes you can find one on CD of fleabay at a decent price. well worth the money. Good luck.
