Like I wrote above, the one I had, (Suzuki King Quad) was almost exactly 180 out. Don't touch the cam timing. Remove the flywheel and you will find the key gone. The taper was slightly chewed so I ground it in using valve grinding paste, (tedious, yes) before cleaning it off and fitting new key.

your flywheel turns 2 times to 1 on the cam gear you don't need to make any marks on your own they are on the flywheel, crank case, head, and sprocket. rotate your crank 180 degrees and see all the marks line up. Your woodroof key could be sheared off I have seen that many times on warriors

Just pulled the side cover off exposing the flywheel. Of course it takes a special puller to get it off, which I have ordered. Can't really tell the condition of the key at this stage.

Order a torque wrench too while your at it if you don't have one and look at the gasket to see if you can reuse it so you don't have any other holdups

Got my flywheel puller on UPS today. Pulled the "flywheel" off and the key IS Sheared off! So I guess my problem is solved. It will be a while until I get the parts ordered, but I guess this was the problem. Many thanks to the suggestions from the members! Hope this will help someone in the future.
