Default Bear Tracker may be sufficating...

Hello all,

This forum is my last hope before i chalk it up and take my 02' bear tracker to the shop. I've been in the process of restoring it for about a month - it has been sitting in my barn for longer than I care to admit. For some reason I can not get this thing to run consistently. It idles fine but as soon as i get up to about 20mpg it starts to bog down and wants to die. I can't hit WOT for more than 1 second before it dies back down. it has a new Carb and i've adjusted both of the pilot screw and throttle screw on the carb but had no luck. What is interesting though is when I take off the air filter and filter box lid it actually runs better and i can hit WOT consistently in 5th gear which makes me think I'm not getting enough air. to the engine. I've taken the carb apart and looked at it no stuck float or anything else that looks off. I'm completely out of ideas on what to do next. Help please.

-TJ

I'm not that familiar with the Bear Tracker carb, but if the main jet needle is adjustable, this is what needs altering. I suspect it needs less fuel, as it runs better when getting more air, so move the needle down in the slider by a notch. If it isn't adjustable, try fitting the main jet from the old carb.
