Looking for a parts quad or something to just rebuild.
I stumbled on this listing, and I've messaged the seller about possibly getting me the VIN so that I could decode it, but figured I'd test out the knowledge here on the forum
Seller claims it's an 06 Kodiak 450 4x4. But looking at the pictures, it has a solid rear axle, whereas I though the Kodiak has always had independent rear... To be honest, all of the plastics look identical to my 04 Bruin 450 accept for the front pieces, and the front bar. The rear end even looks the same... So I just don't know lol.
If nothing adds up from you guys's ID, and the VIN reports back as a Bruin, maybe at some point some parts have been swapped around on the front from a Kodiak? Either way if it does end up being a Bruin 350 4x4, then this wreck would be PERFECT for my needs to convert my 2wd into 4x4
Just checked the on-line parts books and the 06 Kodiak is IRS but the 04 is swinging arm, we maintained a few swinging arm Kodiaks. I remember needing a seat for one, tried swapping it with the seat from a scrap Bruin we had, seat didn't fit, so although the plastics look identical, they are not. If the Kodiak is cheap and needs little work, buy it, mend it and use it, forget tearing both machines apart to try to make one front end fit t'other.
Comparing 04 Bruin to 04 Kodiak, is the Kodiak physically larger than the Bruin? Would you now if dimensionally the frame and suspension parts are similar?
I only wonder because looking at the photos, the frame looks to be pretty tweaked, looks like it hit something in the front AND rolled over... Not so sure that it would be rebuildable unless I had a complete replacement frame, possibly some suspension parts in the front... BUT, if the Bruin and Kodiak shared similar dimensions, mounting points for suspension components and even the engine, then I could just use this rolled over one as a parts quad, get what I needed to and transplant it onto my Bruin, and part out whatever's left.
I know the Bruin and Grizzly are brothers, just wasn't sure how the Kodiak fits into that trio...
He who hesitates--- I have fixed a few bikes that have rolled, racks, bull bars and handlebars bend first, but frames, A arms etc, are often OK, much worse is when a bike hits something solid with a front wheel. This tends to bend the A arm and twists the frame. May not even be noticeable but is extremely difficult to fix.
