Default Yamaha 250 moto 4 starter mounting plate

hello everyone, I've recently acquired a YFM 250 MOTO 4, not sure of the year, but I think it's a 90 or 91...
It's been laying for about ten years so the first thing I did was clean the carb, chang spark plug, battery, and finally just got a brand new starter from eBay and it doesn't fit. The mounting ears on it are in a different position than the old one. So I was wondering instead of getting another one, would I be able to get another mounting plate that fits ? I've attached a couple of pics. Any advice would be great. Thanks !!

Possible to buy a rebuild kit for the starter? Or a shop nearby that can rebuild it?

I agree, OE starters are better quality than the Chinese replacements (Honda 420s excepted) so a set of new brushes in your old one will usually outlast a new Chinese starter.

Really ? I didn't know that I can just change the brushes on a starter, like you can on a power tool and so on. I really didn't want to buy China, but saw it in eBay and grabbed it. Would've been nice if the mounting ears were in the right place... I think this starter fits on the timberwolf and a couple of other models, I wonder if a mounting bracket from that would work. But I'm definitely going to look for brushes for the old one. Thank you !!

I do it all the time, mostly on Hondas. Depends on your skill level, looks like Moto4 kits have separate brushes so a bit more complex than later ones. This is a UK site but I'm sure US dealers will sell the same kits https://www.motoelectrical.co.uk/typ...SABEgJaqfD_BwE be sure you get the right kit, this firm sells a different kit for other 1980s/90s 250 Yams.

Thanks for the info, I think I'll try too see if I can get it apart first to see whats involved before I even order the brushes. As long as as I can do that I think I'd be able to manage it, even though I've never done it before.... I'll definitely check out the link you sent, hopefully they're are u.s. sites that I can order from. Even if I do Send the one I got from eBay back and order another one, I will still try to fix the old one, because it's always good to have two, plus it will be a learning experience. Thanks man 👍
