87 Yamaha YFM 100 "Champ" Loose timing chain.
#1
I bought this bike after it had sat awhile. After literally replacing every electrical part, carb, and fuel lines I got it running. I noticed it had a tick in the engine, so I assumed the valve needed adjusting. I took the cover off the cam sprocket to get TDC and noticed the timing chain has some play in it. Should this be tight with to sag? If so is the chain tensioner adjustable? I noticed on the schematic how it was designed with the spring but was unsure if I would apply more tension to it or if I needed to replace the timing chain.

I thought someone who actually knows would have chimed in here, but looking at the parts drawing, https://www.yamahapartshouse.com/oem...camshaft-chain I would guess you make sure the top run of the chain is slack and bottom run tight, then remove crown nut 16, slacken nut 14 and grubscrew 13, this will allow chain tensioner rod 8 to shoot further in, tighten grubscrew, locknut and crown nut so that tensioner rod can't back off.
