I recently bought a custom made golf cart. It’s basically a quad with a fiberglass golf cart body. It’s a 2 seater looks just like a golf cart, but it has most of the quad chassis and a beefed up frame as well. It’s built very well. It supposedly has a 1989 250 Timberwolf drivetrain and rear suspension. The front end is actually a front suspension off a 230 quad sport. Problem is I found they didn’t make a 1989 Timberwolf 250 but they made a 1989 Moto 4 250. I read that a 89 moto 4 was chain driven?? Anyway this is shaft driven 5 speed no reverse. I’ve had no luck finding a casting number on the engine nor the identification number on the frame. Is there anything else I can look for? Where the driveshaft attaches to the engine it does say made in Japan and I did find a number by the oil dipstick but no luck on that either. Any help is appreciated.
That picture just shows the oil capacity. Fairly sure the cylinder capacity is cast onto the cylinder on Yams. Also fairly sure all the shaft drive 250s (and the 200 etc,) were very similar engines. There will be an engine number on it somewhere and my guess is that will be the only way to tell a Moto4 from a Timberwolf, Pro-hauler or a Bear Tracker engine.
