1989 Moto4 250 removing metal pin from engine
#1
Awhile back my friends moto 4 broke the dowel pin that holds the cam sprocket in place. Damaged the camshaft beyond use as well. He had me work on it, and ended up finding a used camshaft that just slid right in. Pretty easy job that was all done just from the chain cover. However, there’s still the issue of the piece of the pin that broke off. The way the oil drain is on these is strange and isn’t like it all goes to the bottom, it’s like it drains out the side, so flushing it out hasn’t worked out so far.
Im up for any suggestions before having to remove the whole top end to hunt down this metal pin. Was going to attempt using a small skinny magnet and trying my luck while pouring oil in it to flush it toward the drain hole. But havnt got around to it. So any advice is appreciated, thanks!

Too long since I serviced an old 250 to remember, does it have the mesh filter that pops out, spring loaded behind the sump plug? If it doesn't, the mesh filter won't come out so the bit of metal can't get past it, if it does get that far down. Two choices if the bit won't come out by fishing with a magnet, either strip the engine, you will probably need to go further than just a top end strip down to find it, or leave it and hope it doesn't decide to bounce into something that harms the engine.

It does have the removable mesh filter. Small hole with only a little wiggle room even for a skinny magnet. But it’s worth trying for awhile. Rather not have to do a full tear down if i don’t have to, but also don’t want to leave it in there. Lol
