Default Big bear 350 1995 cdi box

I can't find one that matches the one I have. They all have a orange wire to plug in and different plugs. My problem I'm wondering if it's coming from my cdi box, new carb(3rd one in) petcock is clean. My mid throttle just won't run on any carb, it just bogs out. Any ideas?

I assume you have tried both a different spark plug and coil? Looks like the 95 CDI was a one year only fitting, 3HN-855-20-00 superseded by 3HN-855-30-00 which is also theoretically, no longer available. Coil wires are normally orange in Yamaha land, so what colour is the coil wire on your CDI? If it is a CDI problem, and a CDI that gives only mid range trouble, is a very unusual thing, normally they work right or they don't work at all, you will have to go for used, or new old stock at frighteningly expensive prices, or adapt an earlier 3HN-855-10-00 Chinese knock off CDI, if you can. Comparing the 1993 and 1995 wiring diagrams will show any differences, it may just be wiring colours and plugs that differ.

Hey thanks for the reply! I haven't changed the coil, or tested it, is there any sure fire way to test one? I might have to find a wiring diagram for another cdi box from a earlier model I would imagine. I also need to rebuild the head. There is a broke bolt in the head and it blows smoke when I give it gas. Could loss of compression kill my motor when giving it gas? I'm really running out of places to go with this one. Lol I guess I could find a manual and follow procedures on that as well.

Sort out the cylinder head before thinking about the electrics. In theory, the workshop manual will tell you the resistances of the coil windings but Chinese copies of Yam coils are so cheap, just fit one if sorting the engine out doesn't cure the mid range running.

BAM! My heasgasket was in 3 pieces somehow. Glad that's what I needed though. Quick rebuild and back in the game.
