What do you folks do when you take your ATVs on road trips? I plan to camp and ride my ATV on Mem Day weekend, and I'm wondering what I should do to lock it up so it won't get stolen, or have parts stolen off it...? Any suggestions?

A chain to a tree or truck will deter the casual thief. Nothing will stop a determined thief. Stolen parts? I don't know, roll it into the tent and stay up all night?

Personally, in 8 years of ATVing I have never had a part stolen. (knock on wood) However.... I have noticed that my cooler had been dipped into a couple of times and that I lost a gallon of gas one time but not the container.

If your quad has more than 1500 miles, fully insure it and leave the key in it. It won't get stolen. LOL

Been there, had a attempt with somebody stealing my banshee, hard day ride, relaxed in my camper.
I heard noises outside, Ignored it since i was in a camp ground. about 3-5 minutes later I heard my banshee start up. ( do to the custom pipes )
Ran out of the tent there goes my bansee, at the time I jumped on my friends 400ex. By the time I got the key and helmet the banshee was well out of sight. I can still hear my shee. Next thing I know I come ripping aroung the corner and ther's the quad. Fortunate for me I was on reserve for awhile. out of gas.

FIRST THING~ Stupid on my part.
TAke the dam key out!!

I do have a motorcycle rubber covered chain
that I feed into the frame and through the front spoke of the tire.
They usually can roll the quad for about a foot before the tire is stopped.

Not by any means fullproof, but at least its something.

I guess there was no one around the 'shee when you came around the turn. ---Lucky for them.

Big chain or cable rope with lock, for the set get some 4 foot zip ties to help keep your seat.

We camp by ourselves, in a secluded spot. A big dog usually does the trick. No one dares enter our camp site. (If they like there arms attached)

I would also suggest quad insurance, it's cheap, and covers you for theft and collision. Not a bad deal for $150 or so a year.

By the time I got there he was off in the woods im guessing. I did get in trouble from my friend who I grabbed his keys and took after him.

I like the idea of trying to stay secluded with a dog, Chained to a tree when not around.

Yes, large German Shepards are a fantastic deterant.Couple that with a hardened steel chain and lock and leave the quad within reach of the dog and its nearly theft proof.

I've never had to worry about it cause until now I always 4-wheeled trucks. I have seen different locks that lock through the brake disc and what-not. Are they worth a darn, or is there an easy way around them? Do they cost much?
