Well guys, today I raced a YZ426 and got killed...which is normal. I have come to realize that I need more power out of this new blue quad. Even my trusty old tank of a Scrambler beats it for speed in a strait line. (I have many $$$$ of mods though...so it's understandable)
I want the BigGun system but am new to the 4-stroke world when it comes to mods. How good is this pipe and what if I go with the "Quiet Series"??
Should I see about the same difference a pipe makes on a 2-stroke?
I was thinking of upgrading the air filter or airbox set-up...what do you recommend?
If I decide to get some "major" mods in the future...will this pipe be O.K. to go along with those new mods?
What about this Curtis Sparks Advanced Timing Key???
Last question: Do I need a 12 tooth sprocket if I get a pipe and airbox mods? Is it still a good idea?
Thanks...from a new and very happy Yamaha rider! (Yamaha rider...who ever thought that I would say that!?)

1.The Big Gun is a great pipe, lots of guys run them around here with good results. I don't think the guiet one will hurt much, if any it would be on top end.
2.Not even close. But it's still the easiest way to get more power.
3.I consider this mandatory because of the piece of &%$# factory filter. I've got the Pro Design and it seems to be a good one.
4.Definately yes. If you get the complete system with the headpipe.
5.I haven't talked to anyone who said these are worth much. Maybe better throttle response but the Raptor has plenty of that.
6.It depends on the type of riding you do. Tight trails, harescrambles, MX, I would say yes go with the 12 tooth. Dunes, open riding, i've heard of guys putting on 14's.
My 2 cents

I have the Big Gun Slip on on my raptor. GREAT GREAT GREAT sound. I too get trounced by a 426, but you can't compare them at all. Maybe we can hook up to test your rap against my rap...then we know if the Big Gun is actually faster. Even the mags say thatthey can not tell by a seat of the pants test.

Custom X exhaust is now doing slip on pipes for the raptor they are finished in polished stainless and give real good results, they p[roduce good hp and are reasonably quiet. contact pvanlo@q-net.net.au for more info.

I put on a big gun last week.. spent all weekend riding...
All I can say is.. WOW! Big Difference!!! I'm a big guy (6'7" and almost 300 pounds) and I never had the wheels off the ground past 3rd gear without some effort. I can easily pull 4th gear wheelies now, and my 180 pound buddy road a 5th gear wheelie like it was nothing.
We were both amazed at how much more responsive the motor was.
The mods to date:
Big Gun Full Race Exhaust.
Dyno Jet Jets (followed the directions to the letter)
27.5 pilots in both carbs.
Cut out the restrictor plate in the intake, and then did the airbox lid mod like in the last dirt wheels.
I was going to drop to a 12 tooth front, still debating, I don't think I need it anymore. I also have a pro design air filter waiting to be put it, but it wasn't on there for the weekend.
