How can I remove Banshee Steering Stem Bearing Holder
#1
I am trying to replace the bearings and seals on the bottem end of the steering stem of my Banshee. I am having a problem removing the bearing holder which is a ring that is threaded on the outside and is hex shaped on the inside. The inside diameter of the bearing holder is a little over 1 1/8". I am sure it is metric.
What I tried to do was use a bolt with an 1 1'8" hex-head and two nuts by putting the bolt head into the bearing holder. Then I use a socket and breaker bar to turn the bolt. I haven't been able to budge the bearing holder. We even used a torch to heat up the frame until it was red hot and it still cannot be turned. We actually broke the bolt after we tried for so long.
The only thing I can think of is that since the 1 1/8" bolt is a little too small, maybe it is forcing out on the bearing holder and actually making it tighter? I haven't been able to find any metric driver sockets that are big enough to try though.
Does anybody have any suggestions?

Well after lots of liquid penetrant, and high doses of flame. We used a chuck for my dads grinder to get mine out. It has a handle and kind of a u shape on the end with 2 prongs pointing down. We had to work it back and forth for a pretty good while before we got it out. You might check with your dealer and see if they have any ideas or tools that might work.

Ok, Little logic here, If ever single bolt on the banshee is in mm why would this one be in inches? Yamaha will sell you a special tool to remove the bolt, But just do what I did. Buy yourself a 29mm bolt, and weld a small piece of metal to the end of it. Did that and mine spun out no problem (its only supposed to be at like 25 ft-lbs or something) Cant remember now, But I think it may have been reverse threaded too.
