Thanks to everyone for the information - I think that the RAM mount looks like the right sort of mount for my application.

I also found that my Vista turned off with excessive vibration - on the trail I changed the batteries to brand new ones and the problem went away...

PS : Garmin's after sales service was fantastic and they didn't give me any problems about returning the mount for a full refund

I also have a RAM mount and use it on a motorcycle, Mountain bike and my Wolverine. It is very strong as I have rolled the ATV over the mount with the GPS remaining intact. I have used the mount below -10 in the Maine Winter and not had the plasic become inflexible and snap. It also has a variety of different connections so you can connect cell phones, lap tops, lights or just about anything. The mount is also adjustable to almost any orientaion. I use a Garmin Etrex GPS with the Delorme Topo USA 3.0 program and NEVER GET LOST. Check out gps4fun.com and gpscity.com for all of the GPS goodies you can stand.

The handlebar mount holds up for me. The vibration does shut them down pending how much shock they take. I have put foam tape on the removable back and its helped to accomadate jumps. I like the ram mounts other than easy access to the controls while riding.

I have the magellan map 330. It came with the Mapsend cd. It is pretty amazing the detail it has. I needed a GPS for flying, and this one seems to work out well for both flying and all around use. I wanted to get a mount also, but the only ones I have seen are $40 + I don't want to spend that much. Any suggestions for cheaper models or maybe where I can find a good one for cheap?

I finally took delivery of my RAM mount and i am very imporessed. The construction is excellent and the design allows you to position the GPS in absoloutly any direction. After mounting it on my Raptor and tightening it up it stayed tight for the entire ride (85km). i also like the fact that i can unmount it in a few seconds and with the suction mount (glass mount for 4X4) one uses the same unit in the car. All in all RAM have made an excellent product.
