I looked at a 2000 Warrior today at my local dealership. It's in great shape and he's only asking $3500 for it. I got to ride it, but only in the parking lot, so I really didn't get a great feel for how well it performed. I've never owned a Yamaha before, so I really don't know where this quad fits in with all the rest. So, here's the bottom line: I'm 6' 0" tall and currently weigh about 220 (don't laugh What I'm wondering is, how well will this quad perform with my big A$$ on it? Will it have enough power to get me around pretty well? What's the top end speed of this quad? I live in northern Pennsylvania, in the mountains, so I need a lot of low end grunt and torque. Will this quad do the trick for me? I've always been a 2 stroke kind-a guy, but I've finally decided that I just don't have the time and patience anymore to mess with jetting and all that stuff. So, I've finally decided to switch sides, but I just don't know how well a 350cc, 4-stroke engine will haul me around. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, that ol' thumper should haul ya around. 4-Strokes have torque not HP. Sounds like a good deal. If i were you i would jump right on it. The first mod i would get is a White Brothers E-Serice scielncer. It will give you a TON more low end.... (not that the warrior does not already have a lot)

Hey, thanks Blaster96! This is great news, I just about had myself talked outta buying this quad. I wasn't sure if it would haul me around or not, I've always heard good things about yamahas, wish I would have bought one in the first place instead of the the Polaris Scrambler I have now. It's been nothing but a pain in the ***, 1 year old and less then 50 hours on it and the tranny went! I spend a lot of time in the Polaris forum and all I see are postings about reliability, well, I surely didn't see this reliability in the machine I bought. I'll be glade to get on a quad made by another company, Polaris has left a pretty bad taste in my mouth. Thanks again.

I'm 6'1" at 220 and fit nicely on my 98 warrior. I've ridin my buddies 400ex and hit the bar with my knees all the time. Take nothing away from the 400ex there fine machines. I ride mostly motocross with my warrior. for 3500 buck thats a good deal. My warrior has NEVER givin me a bit of trouble.
Good luck with the purchase of your new warrior.
98 warrior

fmf hi-flo header pipe
supertrapp exhaust (no plates)
head ported and polished
web racing cam
durablue eliminator axle 2 + 2
20" dunlops on all fours
14 tooth counter shaft sprocket
and yes it hauls butt now. even with my fat butt.

I have a 2001 Warrior. Great machine. I also have a YZ 250. I was a little disappointed with the power of the warrior. Once I was used to the powerband of the YZ250 no 4 stroke quad could give me the same feeling, not even the Raptor. Even though I knew that I bought the Warrior. It has tons of torque. I weigh about 190 and am 6'0" and am comfortable on the quad. Plenty of leg room and having reverse is a great feeling. Have had no mechanical problems at all. I just got back from the Allegheny National forest in western Pa. I put over 100 miles of hard trail riding on the machine and it was great. It will climb anything I want it to. I just ordered a White Brothers Pro Meg silencer and a K&N jet kit and filter for the machine to give me a little more horsepower. Once that stuff is on I should be all set. Sounds like a good deal. I would get it if I were you. Since I got the quad I have only ridden the YZ 250 once. Good luck with the new machine.

Ya its a good machine just a little nose heavy. and the shocks are a little out dated. but for the price it sounds like a great deal. Im about 240 and i can beat my buddys 300ex all day long. And have no problems cimbing any hills with that motor

The Warrior is built to handle the rough stuff. Yamaha has built it the same way "forever", and it continues to be a strong seller. It is not the "ultimate sport quad", but it will get you there and back! It is a good all around quad. If you can get your hands on a 2000 that is not beat to death for $3500 you had better jump on it before you get arrested for stealing it!

jdedik, I weigh more than you and like the Warrior size a lot. It's certainly not the fastest machine out there these days but it is very reliable, comfortable, has reverse and has decent torque. For $3500 I would say get it. I mostly ride my Banshee in the sand dunes but for everything else I like the Warrior...
