SO at 43.5" front and rear, the new Grizz is too narrow to powerslide easily. It just hooks up and rails around the corner. That may be what you woods guys want, but not me. I NEED to be able to hang the tail out and powerslide around these fireroad corners. SO here's the deal. Douglas makes a 12" diameter, 8" wide wheel with the 4-110 bolt pattern, that's with 5" outside and 3" inside of the hub face.

The stock rear wheels are only 1.5" outside, so that's 3.5 inches increase on each side for 7". That's 50" wide in the rear. My DS is 51". In the front, the Douglas wheels are only 2" outside compared to the stock 1". At $69 to $79 each, that's a lot of dough for just 2" overall. So I'm going to put the 1.5" wheel spacers in front for a total of 3", 46.5" overall in front, for just $79.

Add to that a pair of Spider Trac 25x12.5x12 tires for the rear, and while I'm at it, I'll put the stock rear wheels and tires in front (25x10x12) for more flotation in sand (this really helped the Sportsman in the sandwashes), and an extra inch in width, bringing the front out to 47.5". There may be a better front wheel out there or coming out, which will ultimately work better than these spacers, but I haven't found them. These wheels are already in short supply. More are coming out in a couple of weeks, so they say.

And yeah, we go too fast. Why do you think we got the 660?
This is the first utility that can keep up with the DS and the Raptor. It just needs a little help, which is okay, the DS and the Raptor needed help too.

I ordered all this stuff this morning, with any luck, it will be here by the weekend. You know I'll give you a full report.

Yeah, the tires are Dunlop, kind of a different tread pattern, but they look okay JUST TOO DAMN SMALL AND NARROW IN THE REAR!!

Hey just did the first trailer test ride with the Grizz and Raptor, pulled great, now to load the DS and see how it pulls/tows. Just started it yesterday, ramps and paint tomorrow. Pismo in 11 days!!
My old, great Big Tex sold to my old Sportsman buddy. New trailer hauls 3 quads instead of two and is lighter. And pulls even better, I can't believe it. Building a trailer and having it pull well is such an ordeal. I was meticulous with my layout and alignment, using blocks of wood to space the brackets so they would match exactly side to side, and first shackle to ball measurement happened at least 25 times. It tows straight and sure, I'm so glad. whew!

fourlix,

I'm glad to here your trailer is coming along good. To damn fast though, I spent two weeks on mine. You say eleven days to Pismo. Is that when your leaving or when you arrive. I ask as I will be driving right past there around the 17th or so on my way up to Oregon Dunes. I might stop and say howdy if things and the timing is right.

17 thru the 22nd at the Pacific Plaza "resort" condos. It is supposed to be a block from where you drive onto the beach. Look for a champagne colored Nissan Pathfinder and a blue tandem utility trailer. Er,,I think it's going to be blue, I think I have some blue paint in the shop. My real name is Alex.
