I'm having problems shifting my 96 Banchee. I can go up in gears with no problems but the problem happens when I try to go down more than one gear at a time. When I try to go down from 4th to 3th I dont have a problem but when I then try to go into second I have to pull up slightly on the gear shift lever. Eg I can go from 1-2-3-4-5-6 with no problems but when I have to come back down it's 6-5-up-4-up-3-up-2-up-1. I changed the transmition fluid to a Bel-ray synthetic and the problem continues. My question is has anyone else had this problem and how did you fix it and what did it cost?

It sounds like you need to adjust your external shift mechanism. The adjustment is inside the clutch cover. When you shift the external shift mechanism engages the shifting pins on the shift star and drum. The actuator needs to be centered around the shifting pin (any gear except neutral). If it is off center too far it may be limiting the amount of movement at the shift drum so that it barely engages the next lower gear.

It is a relatively easy adjustment, but if you haven't already, think about buying the service manual it details this adjustment.

The adjustment is made by a off-center adjust bolt and a locking nut. Turning the bolt willmove the shift mechanism slightly so that it can be centered around the shift drum pins.

This is my best guess as to your problem, but the symptoms you describe point toward this adjustment.

Thanks!

I'll look into getting a service manual so I can make that adjustment. Appreciate it!
