Grizzly 660 fuel mileage?

An average of 20 mpg is quite respectable. I could live with that. That's more than a 100 mile range on a tank. I assume that must be cruisin on good trails or roads. I wouldn't expect you'd get that in the more difficult trails.
I'm lucky to get 60 miles out of the 4 gal tank on my 350 (2-stroke). I could almost double my engine size and my fuel mileage at the same time. Cool.

Ron...I could also live with 20 mpg but so far my best has be 14 mpg in 2 wd on easy trails and going light on the throttle. I have resolved myself to carrying and extra 4 gallons or selling the quad. I have to state again that the Griz 660 is no better than my SP 500. I really don't think it as good...Arlan

You're right, 14mpg is not great. Sure you'll get about 70 miles on the first tank beacause of the bigger 5.3 gal tank, but after that it means packing more gas around for extended trips. Gas is heavy so that means poor handling and worse mileage, which means more gas, etc. etc.
I realize there is a price to pay for all those ponies, but with the gas mileage they're getting out of cars now, I had hoped some of that new technology had trickled down to ATVs. Maybe it'll take more time. Or maybe this crazyness about who's machine can go fastest is driving them to abandon mileage in favour of speed at all costs??? I hope not. There are more important things than top speed, as far as I'm concerned.

Arlan,
What in the world did you expect from 660cc's. More horses means less gass mileage. You have to give up something. I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt before I got the new Grizz that my fuel economy would not be as good as my Arctic Cat, but I wanted the Grizz because of the extras I was getting, not for gas mileage. You keep saying its not any better than your sportsman, well I have driven both. They are different machines in lots of ways. The weight is one of them, you get that sportsman stuck with 100lbs extra weight and you will see the difference. Definately more power on the Grizz's side. The only thing I see that is better on the sportsman is the ride, and then there isn't that much difference.
While I am on the subject what about these people that keep trying to say their sport machine will beat the grizz. I say why in the world shouldn't it, (ITS A SPORT BIKE). The Grizz is a utility machine that weighs a lot more. It is set up differently, and geared differently.
Arlan, I say sell your Grizz and go back to your sportsman if it just as good, but don't keep complaining about something so trivial as gas mileage. I bet you where real easy on giving it the gas when you where checking your gas mileage. I am 50 years old and I will admit since I bought this machine, I have changed my attitude about power, I love it!!!

I just got back from riding in New York over the weekend and after babying it for the first day I was able to go 115.4 miles on 5.2 gallons of gas. 50% was blacktop, 35% was dirt road, and 15% singletrack riding. As I said very easy on and off the gas and long stretches of not changing speed dramatically. Only locked in 4wd 5 times and diff lock once for short hole crossings. My odometer and speedometer are definitely off as I checked my speeed and mileage against three other machines and those are the figures I gave you. All three of the other machines were virtually the same after the day of riding.
