Check out the Yamaha web site. Apparently, they have narrowed done the problem Raptors. Re-call notices have already been mailed. the recall specificaly mentions the problem with the transmission. it goes so far as to warn of an odor emission ( sulfer..rotten egg like scent ) prior to failure.

Good news. identifying the problem quads is as simple as looking at it. If you happen to have had the misfortune of purchasing a White 01 Raptor. Boom. your it.

Funniest thing yet. According to Yamaha the dealers had been warned not to sell them. If they were going to sell they were obligated to explain to the customer "up front" that the white raptors lack the performance of the Blue raptors and that they stink. literally.

i'm warning everyone because my friend from Manchester, NH bought one and the dealer didn't say anything about the problems. In fact, when my friend ( who out of repect will remain nameless ) commented on the odor. the dealer told him " it's just the protective spray burning off. They put it on the catalytic converter to protect it from the salt water when they shipped his quad from Japan."

anyway sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

AK

"it's just the protective spray burning off". I think you have been to close to one of those problem Raptors sniffing that protective spray. Go to your docter and remove the spray from within. Chet

What is the web site with the recall info ?? I've been to www.yamahausa.com and saw no details or even a mention of a recall.

I hope this is a joke !?

Thanks

sounds to me like someone is trying to start a "this color is faster but that color handles better" war like in the honda ex case.

is it me.....or does this make absolutly 'NO SENSE'???? I mean....come on...the white one's only? That is the most retarded thing I have ever heard. The only difference is the color of plastic. Do you think they were made at two completly different plants or that the insides of the white one's differ from the blue ones? My guess is there's a fork in the production line.....one for whites....one for blue's and I'm guessing that the trannys are the same and that they are already in a frame....both of which came from the same spot.....so I'm guessing the trannys don't get screwed up because of plastic being on. I will apoligize if I'm outta line for this post and if there really is a website. I would like to see it.
