My 2002 yamaha grizzly has a chattering sound coming from the front differential. I have had it to two different dealers and both have said everything is normal.One dealer said to put heavier gear oil in it to quiet it down!
I have concluded it is excessive backlash adjustment of the ring and pinion gear. I counted 9 distinct clicks for each revolution of the front driveshaft. This is probably the number of teeth on the pinion gear. I did this test with all four wheels off the ground by turning the rear wheel while in four wheel drive.
Do you other ATV connection members find this to be a situation with your front differential also or am I being to critical and this is truly normal as the dealers have stated.
I just don't want any issues to come up after the warranty has expired. I just can't get the dealers to take this seriously. Thanks for any help from any personal experience you may have on this matter.

I haven't noticed that on mine at all.I would make sure they fixed it.

 

I don't think that is normal at least mine doesn't make any sound like that or any other for that matter.

 

I have a noisy,sometimes whining front gearcase as well.Around 15/25 m.p.h.mostly.It is so noisy/I do not know what exactly - the entire front??/,that it sounds like a 10 years old junk.I have no doubt ,that it would be very difficult,if not impossible, to fix it.I am not happy with it at all, but it is my punishment for not buying american....
