I've looked at all the 4wd quads from Yamaha and don't know if I should go with the Wolverine or the Big Bear for my wife. She doesn't need something big like the Kodiak or the Grizzly. Which is the better quad, a Wolverine or a Big Bear? Which one of the 2 have the better features? She will be using the quad mainly for trail riding and since it is here I'll use it for yard work too.

the wolverine is more of a sport utility. it is faster and has better suspension. the big bear is a little slower, not quite as good suspension, heavier.if she wants a reliable quad that will last a long time, i would go with the big bear, the wolv. will also last a long time too, but sport oriented machines tend to not last as long as the utility machines. she will love either machine.

The new Big Bear has 2wd/4wd switchable which will make steering easier. The Bear is a utility quad but has very good ground clearance and good suspension travel. I have the Kodiak and love it. The auto tranny is sweet.

Good luck with what ever you choose.

Just a thought.if you go with the wolverine...aren't alot of the parts interchangable with you warrior? If so, That could be useful. Good luck

I realize your not asking about any Hondas but I thought I would throw my suggestion in. The Honda foreman 400 is a good trail machine and with lots of utility thrown in. It will work itself to death. The size of the machine is similar to my trx300 4x4. My neighbor across the street has a 1997 model and its been a good hunting /work machine for him. Also a little more luxury and easy steering(+ more ground clearance) would be the Rancher350 shift model 4x4. Chet

If I had decided on a Yamaha, and YOU ride a warrior, I'd get the wolverine. I know some people hate to hear the word "polaris".. but, have you considered a scrambler? 4x4 and a friendly tranny.. I like it..

Well, Yeah, I'd get the wolverine. You can interchange parts to and from the war and the wolv. Gotta love that!

hey, i was in this same situation last year. I needed a good work/trail machine. My choices were the rancher, the big bear 4x4, the polaris sportsman 400, and the wolverine. To make a final decision, i went out and test drove all of them. After riding all of them, i felt that the big bear was my personal favorite. I like the ease of riding, and the egronomics. I was very surprised by the amount of power it had too. The best part about the bear was i got it for $4100, brand new. I love my big bear!!!!!!!!! You should really let your wife go out and test drive the the wolverine, and the bear to see which one she likes. I know that they are all great quads. The wolverine might be the more fun to ride though, due to the fact that it is sportier. If you like doing some work, and some rough trail riding, then i would get the big bear. And your wife wont have to shift as much because the big bear has a more powerful engine, and is geared a little lower then the wolvy. LaYtEr

my mom has a prairie 650 and she is 53 years old. She can't wheelie it yet, but she loves it. Plus, benefit here is you can ride the big bad 4 x 4 when your wife doesn't want to.
